Mailing list
Some folks have asked for a mailing list, because they have better things to do than constantly checking Facebook and Tumblr and Twitter and such to find out when my next performance is. And who can blame them? There is a whole wide world of frying garlic and poodle-walking and vegan food festivals and Gregorian choir performances to enjoy, I don’t blame you for not wanting to scroll through...
FRINGE WORLD 2012
I’m feeling sad that Fringe World 2012 is over and I won’t have an excuse to sing ‘Long Gone Lonesome Blues’ for a while. But do you really need an excuse?
Thanks to Sasha and Tom and Matt for the photos, to Hannah and Ben and Mark for being genius roadies and thanks a million to everyone who helped out, or who came to see a show.

HOUSEKEEPING
1. If you are ever at my show and you feel like taking a photo or some video, please do it! Unless the venue specifically tells you not to, of course. (And not up my skirt or anything like that.) If they want to know if you have permission from me, yes you do.
2. If you ever do take pictures or video or bootleg sound recordings, please email it to me afterwards! Even if it’s really old! I...

Playing the Mustang Bar tomorrow night, along with the wonderful Benny Mayhem and the irrepressible Spitfires. Doors from 8, I expect I’ll be on a little later than that. Sorry for late notice, friends. THAT’S ROCK AND ROLL(/ALT-COUNTRY!)

LUNETTES
So who are the pilgrims now?
Baby, it’s not you or me.
We’ve not known a journey like that:
no white whale, no cold sea.
I dreamt it swallowed us under;
the waves were roaring applause.
Kelp ribbons and iodine, my
muscles strapped around yours.
The lunettes of your jawline, darling,
the crescent stripe of your hand.
You clasp my spine, we move tight now
brushing...

Buffy Sainte-Marie
Two great things from a Canadian singer-songwriter that my friend James (who plays in a wonderful band called Blackmilk) suggested I listen to.
1.
Michael Ragnogna: Buffy, what advice would you have for new artists?
Buffy Sainte-Marie: Oh my gosh. Just play. Don’t wait for some kind of mythological businessman to come along and recognize you. You’re already great. If you’re...
MY #1 CHRISTMAS CAROL
My favourite Christmas carol is O Holy Night. Where Calling and Not Calling My Ex (which I wrote about a couple of days ago) is a triumph of lyricism, O Holy Night is as pure and sublime as melody-writing gets. Actually, I’m sort of prone to insisting to anyone who will listen, which is not many people, that it is greatest melody ever written; a melody that makes McCartney seem repetitive...
MY #1 (SECULAR) CHRISTMAS SONG
Calling and Not Calling My Ex by Okkervil River is my favourite secular Christmas song. There is not a word of it I don’t wish I had written. Every line fits together with such unexpected and satisfying perfection it’s like a jigsaw, and the picture in the jigsaw is a very tall girl with wide-set eyes and pronounced hipbones and a pissed-off, jealous dude hunched in a duffel coat...
Thanks.
“Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love. There is nothing more; but I want nothing more.”
BOFO Flashback Photography
Ha! Just discovered these photographs from Beaufort Street Festival a few weeks ago.The delightful Perth Flashback Photography provided the frames and accessories. And the photography, evidently. I’m more a hat girl than a bunny ears girl but I already had a beehive, and we all know you can’t just go putting a hat on a hive.
BOFO was such a glorious day. The event’s...
Voiceworks 87 Launch
From writingWA:
“Witness the literary fitness at the launch of Voiceworks 87, a journal dedicated to publishing new work by young Australian writers. The theme for this issue is PLAY, and that is exactly what we intend to do. Some of Perth’s finest young voices will be showcasing their talent, from authors to spoken word artists. As well as readings by local writers, there will be...

Wednesday at the Bird
Come to this gig on Wednesday! I’ll be singing originals and maybe a cover, I haven’t decided what yet. I’m on at 7pm.

An Evening of Showtunes
I’m extremely excited for this.
I’m playing songs from CATS. Dancing to Magical Mister Mistofelees when I was four years old is possibly my first memory of really falling in love with a piece of music.

Fish Beach
I do this stupid thing where, if I’m weary or sad or anything other than alert and wide-eyed and distinctly ready for some stimulation, I resist watching “good films”. By which I might mean “serious films,” because I’m generally willing to allow myself Woody Allen or Wes Anderson (both have the same initials! How have I never noticed this before?!) It’s not something I’m...

HEY INTERNET!
My website is now a Tumblr. This is a bit of a lazy move, especially because I am theoretically somewhat interested in web design as well as in blogging, but the problem is that I like music a whole lot more and for the most part I would rather write new songs, or at least walk endlessly through Asian grocery stores trying to think of new songs. (When I think about it this seems to apply to...
